1. The Accent
Theory- This was one of the first, and worst, theories I came up
with.
In "Life Before Death", Monica explains that Ireland was the first
piece of earth upon which she was set. Hence, she sounded Irish. So...
Andrew had a bit of a Southern accent. More than a bit of one in
"Beautiful Dreamer"! So, with that in mind, I decided the Southern U.S.
must have been where Andrew was first set. I'm not sure when the
Southern drawl really came into play but I'm gonna guess it can't be
more than 300 years ago. So, according to this really bad theory,
Andrew is at most 300 years old. Obviously, this is a bad theory. Tess
sounds American but obviously she existed prior to 1776. So... nice
thought, bad theory.
2. The New Math
Theory- This theory was based heavily on Andrew's early dialogue in
"Crisis of Faith." A girl calls the crisis line he's running. She needs
help with her Algebra homework. Later, after handling the call, Andrew
explains that he didn't know he was so good at the "new math". I took
that to mean Algebra. So I did some investigating (I'm not saying it
was really thorough!) and found that the first treatise on Algebra
dates to 3rd century CE/AD. So
about 1800 years ago. For it to be "new"
to Andrew, he would have had to have been around for at least 500 years
prior to this "new math". Cause it only makes sense that for something
to be new to you, you would have to have been used to something "old".
So by this account Andrew was at least 2300 years old. Unfortunately,
this theory fell through when a friend informed me that at her local
schools Algebra and the like is still referred to as "new math."
3. The Ark Theory-
This theory is based off of the episode "Holy of Holies". First, Monica
states in this episode that she is 6000 years old. Since Andrew seems
older you would figure he was at least that old. Later, Andrew mets
Micah, the angel that's been guarding the Ark since it disappeared in
586 BCE/BC. Andrew says it's nice to see Micah "again". Since Micah's
been with the Ark since 586, it would seem like if Andrew did know him
it was prior to 586. So Andrew is at least 2589 by this count. But
based on Monica's comment very early
in the episode, undoubtedly much,
much older.
4. The Before There was Time Theory- At this point it becomes obvious that TBAA episodes contradict themselves. (Duh.) Here Monica says she was created at the dawn of time. That's pretty vague but if taken seriously Andrew would probably come out to be billions, possibly, trillions of years old.
My conclusion? Regardless of whether any or none of these theories is right...
Andrew's really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really,
OLD!
But he's still cute. :-)
